O'Grady was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Jan and Jim O'Grady, a financial planner. She grew up in Wheaton and went to Wheaton North School. She was a graduate in 1981. The model was featured on several commercials on television, but then moved from Illinois to Los Angeles. Her career O'Grady began her career as models for Montgomery Ward, and well performing commercials in a variety of ways.
